Attention badges on icons in application switcher and activities dock
Being a macOS user for so long, one super convenient feature is that when something needs your attention (like unread messages in Slack, for instance), the application icon in both the application switcher popup and in the dock get a red badge. This makes it very easy to see when an application has something to show you.
In GNOME, this is not the case. In fact, without installing something like Top Icons or AppIndicators, there's basically no way to know if something needs your attention without actually switching to that application. (See issues with notifications and the dot at #305.)
It would be awesome if GNOME could adopt the same design and macOS (even if it's an option) to make an application's icon with a badge when there's something new/unread/needs attention, as macOS does.
I'm open to alternative solutions, as well. I just want to know when something needs my attention. (Again, #305.)
