Video Wallpapers for Desktop and Lockscreen
I'm not sure if this is the right way to request this issue and this may seem silly to some but a simple seamless looping video with some nice conky widgets showing the time and weather makes for a great dashboard for an HTPC in a home living room.
There have been some hacky solutions in the past using nautilus scripts but all such tutorials are, like I said, hackey and depreciated at this point. There are independent solutions like the application Komerebi but it doesn't work on Ubuntu 18.04 and the developer who made it seems to have lost interest. On KDE there are some fairly simple but effect add ons you can download to make the KDE default desktop manager take gifs and mp4s for backgrounds.
Using Tweaks I can set a GIF as a background, but it won't play. And Gifs are also not ultimately the best solution due to their lack of compression.
But even a looping gif would be nice as a background. Would it be possible for someone to take a crack at this? I hate to just be making requests. I'm a UX Designer learning to code so I've been learning a lot of Linux stuff lately but I'm nowhere near knowledgeable enough to implement this myself. Tweaks seems like a prime candidate for this functionality though. As a separate app like Komerebi it's bound to just get lost and forgotten but the Tweaks app is all about customizing Gnome and this is just the kind of customization that a lot of people want in the ricing world.
Anyway, hope ya'll have a nice day!
