Shortened app names with ... in the overview can be ambiguous
Take a look at this screenshot:
Both applications have the same icon, and both applications start with the same name, the only difference is that one ends with Alsa and the other ends with Jack, but as the shell shortens the name with ..., it is not possible to know which is which. I know that this can be seen as an issue with ZynAddSubFX, but this is only one example that I encountered, there could be many more.
Anyway, I propose 2 solutions to address this issue in Gnome Shell:
- Shorten the name in the middle with a ~ (like Midnight Commander) (Easier to implement, but can still be ambiguous if the middle part of the name is different)
- Have the long names use a marquee effect (like for example the Amaze file manager on Android) (Harder to implement, but it will always show correctly the application names)
