Opening system menu causes frame skipping
Hi,
For a long time there has been a bug in Gnome Shell that causes frame skipping when playing videos. I finally got around to recording it and making a bugreport out of it.
I have attached two video files (of downloaded clips from Youtube). There are both 1080p (h.264). The first one is with only the video playing and the second one is with htop running next to it. The thing to look for is gnome-shell.
Everytime you click on the top menu or date or go to the overview, the video skips frames and the cpu spikes. I find it very odd that opening a simple menu causes this.
The hardware is a Dell Latitude 7480 (kaby lake i5-7300u). I have no extensions except the Pop theme. The OS is Fedora 28 (I just upgraded from Fedora 27 to be on the latest Gnome so that I could test if this issue still happens).
This skipping happens on all of my systems (laptop + desktop). It happens on Xorg and Wayland (the recorded videos are on Xorg, because I don't use Wayland atm because of the laggy mouse).
