The default animation of windows feels too slow on desktop, this can make regular actions like pressing cmd and selecting another window feel sluggish. There is an accessibility option to "Reduce Animation" which disables these animations. This is fixes sluggishness but removes any benefit of animations.
I have found that setting a faster animation speed using lg improves desktop experience significantly, for my tastes. E.g. `St.Settings.get().slow_down_factor = 0.4`. So I've set this for quite some time.
Setting this has disadvantages:
* Doing manually requires opening lg and setting each startup.
* Using "impatience" extension is better, but can break on each gnome-shell release (or at least fail version checks).
I would like instead for gnome-shell to support properly configuring faster animations.
### How would you like it to work
I don't have a strong opinion on exactly _how_ it should be implemented. Here are some ideas that come to mind:
* Add gsettings / dconf variable where I can persist my "slow_down_factor" choice so doing so on startup, or with an extension, is not required.
- Update: [It is already possible to set an env var to do this](https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/7513#note_2061681).
* New Accessibility/Seeing toggle **"Faster Animation"**.
- When enabled sets `slow_down_factor = 0.4`
- When "Reduce Animation" is enabled it will be greyed out or auto-disabled.
* New Accessibility/Seeing "Animation" submenu containing both "Reduce" and "Faster" mutually exclusive toggles.
* New setting allowing a speedup/slow down slider, similar to impatience extension.

It would be great if there was a feature to click on a remind me later button in an active notification popup or from the notifications panel to be reminded of something after a scheduled interval (i.e. after a few hours or custom time).
This will be highly useful for students and a lot of business-centric users to increase their productivity. I think it would be a handy feature for GNOME Shell mobile users i.e. GNOME Mobile, etc.

Currently, Notifications are only displayed once actively and are then present in the notification tray. Sometimes, I have encountered cases where I need to check an important notification i.e. mails, etc later again, but I forgot about its existence and continue with my daily tasks (I don't check the notifications panels frequently).
So, it would be nice to have a button (the icon could be a notification bell with a clock) which can be placed beside the Dismiss notification and the See more buttons to open up a menu with the label "Remind me after" and entries like "1 hour", "3 hours", "1 day", "Custom". The custom event can allow selecting a custom date or time for the reminder.
Once, the specified time is reached, the notification can be displayed again to the user (with some icon/style indication that this is a reminder for an existing notification)

Thank you for your fantastic work!
I really like how in Gnome you can press Super+[number] to open the corresponding application you have pinned on your dash.
I think this could be further improved by having the dash appear automatically in place (like a "Dash preview", in the same place as it is in the Overview, but on top of whatever else you have on screen), with the numbers shown on top of the applications icons, if you hold down the Super-key without doing anything else for more than X seconds.
Like the numbers shown on the icons in Slack if you hold down Ctrl+Shift for a while (see screenshots below).
Because if you do that, at least I would think that it is because you've forgotten what place the app you want is in. Since you normally use this Super + number feature without seeing the Dash in front of you you might forget in the moment. So you hold Super, fully intending to press a number to open an app, but the correct order escapes you. So you just keep holding it, trying to remember. Then it would be helpful for the preview to show up.
I think the best thing to happen of you let go of Super after those X seconds would be to just hide this "Dash preview" (or whatever you'd call it), and nothing else. Today the Overview is shown when you let go of the Super-key without pressing anything else, no matter how long you've held it for. This seems unnecessary – no one would hold Super for a long time just because they want to do the same thing as pressing it would do – and maybe a _tiny_ bit of a security/privacy risk. Because if you keep holding Super down without doing anything else that might be because you where about to open Overview but then someone walked in on you that you don't want to see your overview. You could press Esc to dismiss, but then you have to know and remember that.

In this vein, @wjt shared an interesting anecdote today:
>Well, I've remembered why my laptop has been running so painfully slowly: I set the power profile in the system menu to Power Saver two days ago when my battery was running low
Better surfacing when Power Saver is enabled could prevent folks from having a bad experience without realizing why. Most other OSes seem to do this.
Something to consider is whether this should only affect Power Saver, or the Performance mode as well, for the opposite concern: e.g. someone may want to know why their battery is draining faster.
## Prior art
### Windows
Windows uses a leaf to represent their "Battery saver" mode. This icon is in the quick settings and overlaid in green on the battery in the taskbar when enabled.

### Android
Android (at least Android 14, on Pixel) uses a battery with a **+** sign in it to represent their "[Battery Saver](https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/6187458?hl=en)" mode in quick settings. When it is enabled, the battery icon in the top bar is recolored yellow, and has an overlaid **+** to make it more visibly obvious (I don't love the low contrast here when it's enabled with a full battery, but I digress:

When first introduced all the way back in Android 5, they went much further and colored the entire top and bottom bars bright orange when battery saver was enabled:

Possibly apply those programs and optimizations to your image files (source-code or as a build step) to save some space, reduce download sizes and necessary computing power to display the images - even though all of these are just minimal improvements.https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/7392screenshot: Improve notifications2024-03-07T22:33:23ZFlorian Müllnerfmuellner@gnome.orgscreenshot: Improve notificationsFollow-up from this [discussion](https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/merge_requests/2976#note_1923984).

Only recently by accident I've discovered that it is actually an option toggle.
Probably it would be better to redesign it to more easily distinguish between the actual pointer, e.g. in the form of a button or another symbol like we have in "Mouse & Touchpad" panel.
