general: Rename "application" to "app"

Ghost User requested to merge (removed):rename-application-to-app into main

This is part of an initiative: Teams/Design/initiatives#123 (closed)

Several places in Shell use the word "application". However, "app" is a more common term nowadays.

This MR updates the necessary strings to use the word "app".
