GNOME 45.beta login is very slow on medium aged hardware
2015 X1 Carbon gen3 i7 with 8gb ram. Not super old, but not super young either. Has a 600mb/sec SATA SSD.
Samples for login land roughly 60% in gnome-shell
, of which about 85%
of that is in JXL decoding, presumably for our new file format for backgrounds.
I'm a less concerned that it's 85% and more concerned that it's about a 17 second stall on login.
You can see similar behavior by opening gnome-control-center
, it's just incredibly slow because of image decoding as well, with routinely a 60 second lockup loading our backgrounds.
It's okay if we boot this to gnome-backgrounds
, but I figured I'd start here first to see how we want to triage.
