Dragging windows with touch input locks up GNOME Shell
Affected version
- GNOME Shell: 44.1
- Fedora Silverblue: 38
- Wayland
- Tested on a Dell Venue 11 tablet.
Bug summary
I recently updated my tablet from Fedora Silverblue 35 to 38, and in the process GNOME Shell got updated from 41 to 44.1. Ever since then, I have been experiencing this issue with 100% consistency: dragging a window title-bar via the touch screen immediately locks up GNOME Shell. It is not actually possible to drag the window — it doesn't move, and any further touch input does nothing at all.
If I connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to the tablet, they don't work either. The mouse cursor shows the four-arrow icon as when a window is being dragged.
There is no way to further interact with the tablet, and it needs to be forcefully powered off. This is very frustrating, as not only does it mean I can't drag any windows ever, but it also happens quite frequently by accident when I only mean to tap on a window to switch focus to it...
Steps to reproduce
- Run GNOME via a touchscreen.
- Drag on a window titlebar.
What happened
GNOME Shell locks up completely.
What did you expect to happen
The window should be dragged, and GNOME Shell should continue functioning.
