Ability to expand notification body in message-tray
Apologies if this has been covered here, I believe there was some discussion on bugzilla about it a couple years ago.
IMO, one area of GNOME that could use some love is the 'message-tray'...or the area where notifications reside next to the calendar. Ideally, I would prefer to only have notification pop-ups enabled for a handful of select time critical things and have the rest go strait to the 'message-tray' for viewing later. But that cannot be done in any sane way with how gnome handles notifications currently, as the message body gets truncated after a single line and cannot be expanded to read the full message. Further, if the notification does not link back to an application that can be launched the message really serves no purpose when not fully readable.
Notification pop-ups have the ability to expand up to six lines, having a similar logic in the message-tray would be great. ie...expand the notification with a middle-click, then dismiss / open the linked application with a left click. Or something along those lines. I know more thought would have to go into implementing it for all users across varied device types (touchscreen, keyboard, mouse etc) and its easier said than done. But maybe implementing something like above for the time being would suffice.
Awhile back I forked https://github.com/julio641742/extend-panel-menu ,and stripped it down to only separate the notification area and calendar into two separate entities. My goal was to implement some sort or notification expansion via a simple extension...if I remember correctly it appeared a fair share of the code to expand notifications was already implemented in the gnome-shell 'message-list.js'... but I learned quickly I just do not know js/ GJS well enough yet to accomplish it cleanly on my own.
TL;DR...
Implement the ability to expand notifications body within the message-tray. I would gladly do it myself if I could figure out how to :/
