Allow keeping the apps list compact and sorted
When I want to access an application quickly, I either type keywords or add it to the dash. I use the apps frid when I don't know the app well enough or use it very rarely. Because of this, when I access the app grid I want it to be predictable, and I think we all agree on that.
Where we might disagree is on what that predictability implies: because I rarely access the app grid, it doesn't have any special softing or spatial model in my mind, I never need to or try to sort the applications into folders or in pages. If I want to manage applications' order I do so in the Dash. Because of this, the list being predictabile boils down to it being compactly and alphabetically sorted, in a flat structure (no folders).
After installing a few apps, trying them out, and uninstalling them, my apps list looks like this:
This doesn't work well at all with how my brain works, I can't help but to see this ass messy, broken and unhelpful.
I'm certain usability test proved that the current behavior works better for many users, maybe even for most of them, but I'd really appreciate if there was a way to keep the applications list compact and alphabetically sorted. I know it's possible to clear some setting out to "fix" this, but it's all but a sane long term solution.
