Keyboard layout indicator not updated

I have two keyboard layouts configures (en_US and de_CH), and set left-shift+right-shift as my layout modifier.

Switching keyboard layout works just fine, but the layout indicator (top right panel) does not update to reflect the change.

This means the layout in use does not forcibly match the layout gnome-shell displays as being used
