Occasional crash when connecting an external monitor
Affected version
OS: Fedora Silverblue 34 GNOME Shell Version: 40.1 Issue appears in Wayland (not sure if in XOrg, but seems unlikely)
Bug summary
At my work desk, my laptop is connected to an external monitor. Often I will temporarily take my laptop away from my desk. When I return, I am usually carrying the laptop with the lid open, and I reconnect it to the external monitor. The display on the external monitor is mirrored from the laptop screen, not joined. Occasionally (maybe 1 in 20 times; often enough to be annoying, but not often enough to be a major problem) reconnecting the monitor will cause the session to crash, and all applications will close.
The crash seems to be in Xwayland.
May be related to #3475, though the symptoms seem to be different enough?
Steps to reproduce
See summary: connect laptop to an external monitor while the lid is open.
What happened
Crash the session.
What did you expect to happen
Not crash the session, which is what usually happens.
Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
Log excerpt (you can see me connecting the external keyboard and mouse as well)
