Application names are displayed in full when browsing, but cropped when searching
Affected version
Fedora 34
gnome-shell-40.1-1.fc34.x86_64
Wayland (X11 untested)
Bug summary
In GNOME 40, the application names are finally displayed in full when a mouse cursor is hovering above them. However, the same effect doesn't work when searching for that application. Those names are cropped, and if there are multiple items starting with the same string, they can't be distinguished. (A real world example is attached).
Steps to reproduce
- create a few desktop files with the same icon and a long name, differing just at the end of the name
- browse the available applications, you can distinguish those applications by hovering above them
- search for those applications, you can't distinguish them
What did you expect to happen
GNOME should show the full app name when hovering over it, even in search.

Here's my installed Duke Nukem 3D purchased from GOG.com (not available anymore, unfortunately), when browsing the app list: browse
And here are the same icons when searching for them: search
As you can see, it is not possible to figure out which application is the real launcher when searching for "Duke". It can only be found through browsing. This is uncomfortable and it seems it could be easy to fix.
