Date shows incorrectly when using Australian locale
Affected version
- Fedora 33
- 3.38.1
- XOrg and Wayland
Bug summary
When the system is set to English (Australia) as the Region & Language, the calendar/clock in the top menu bar of the gnome shell displays the date formatted incorrectly I reported this for Ubuntu 19.04 when I first noticed it, but have since found that it is a) not an Ubuntu bug, and b) occurring on all other Gnome based distros.
Steps to reproduce
- Go to Settings > Region & Language
- Set the Language to English (Australia)
- Set the Formats to Australia
- Set the Input Source to English (Australian)
- Log out or reboot and log back into the console
What happened
- The date in the top bar is shown the abbreviation in the order of Month then Date, for example "Oct 29".
- When selecting the calendar/clock the expanded menu displays the Weekday Month Date Year, for example "Thursday October 29 2020".
What did you expect to happen
- The date in the top bar should show the abbreviation in the order of Date then Month, for example "29 Oct".
- When selecting the calendar/clock the expanded menu displays the Weekday Date Month Year, for example "Thursday 29 October 2020", similar to the UK formatting.
Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
The issue is an odd one as the Format preview in Settings looks fine, so I am unsure where the shell is getting the formatting from for the top bar when set to Australian localisation. I have attached a screenshot of the Settings Region & Language section, the Format preview and the expanded top calendar menu.
