Automatic screen rotation broken with GNOME 3.38 on Xorg
Affected version
GNOME Shell 3.38.1 (First noticed with 3.38.0
Debian Buster
XOrg only
Bug summary
Upon upgrading to GNOME 3.38.0 about 3 weeks ago I found that the automatic screen rotation feature has stopped working on my tablet (ThinkPad X1 Tablet Gen 3). Upgrading to 3.38.1 did not fix the problem.
The automatic rotation works when logging in with Wayland, so the problem seems to be isolated to 3.38 on Xorg.
Also, I should note that the "Lock Screen Rotation" option is missing from the system menu when running on Xorg.
Steps to reproduce
- Upgrade to most recent package versions
- Log in with "GNOME on Xorg"
- Rotate tablet or open system menu
What happened
The screen did not rotate with the tablet
What did you expect to happen
In all previous versions of GNOME that I have used, the screen has followed the rotation of the tablet.
Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
If there are specific logs that would be useful I'm happy to add them
