Hard to drag apps between folder pages

Testing GNOME 3.37.90 with a Fedora 33 development snapshot (in a VM), I struggled to move an app between pages inside a folder. I really couldn't work it out.

I think the main issues were:

  • There's no visual indication of how to drag between pages - it's not clear where to go, and it's impossible to know when you are hovering in the correct position.
  • When you do drag between pages, it's not very obvious (this is likely a product of testing in a VM, I assume there's supposed to be an animated transition?)
  • I was using the dots to switch between pages, so I tried to use them to drag between pages by hovering over them. It didn't work.

The main thing I'd consider is visual feedback when you're hovering in an area that will page the folder. I'd also be interested in rethinking the dot indicators and how they fit into drag and drop scenarios. The fact that they are interactive is a bit of a false-lead. (To be honest, I'm not sure they're a great fit for pointer interaction in general.)

There's some overlap with #3092 (closed) here and a similar approach to the hover states might help.
