App grid has too many page dots on the right

Bug summary
Downstream Ubuntu issue was reported by a different user: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1870847
The applications menu shows more page dots than available, so instead of being 2 dots, it shows 8 dots, only the top dots and the bottom two can be clicked to change pages, the other ones have no effect when clicked.
This issue might be related to #2549 (closed) where I could reproduce it consistently.

Simply opening the applications menu or reproducing previously mentioned issue #2549 (closed)

Notably at the end of the journalctl file we have various occurrences of this:
gnome-shell[1786]: value "-0.000122" of type 'gfloat' is invalid or out of range for property 'margin-bottom' of type 'gfloat'
