In Wayland, clicking on 'Show Applications' freezes mouse cursor until displayed
Affected version
gnome-shell 3.36.0, seen in x86-64 Arch (3.36.0) and Fedora 32 (3.36.0-3.fc32). Wayland-only.
Bug summary
After clicking on on the 'Show Applications' icon in the overview favourites bar, the mouse cursor freezes momentarily until all applications are enumerated and the animation begins. (Other animations, e.g. hide applicaitions, can cause similar cursor stutters but they aren't so visible.) This is especially prominent on slower machines, but also observable on my faster workstations.
Steps to reproduce
- Ensure 'Show Applications' is in 'All' mode (not 'Frequent') so there are many applications to enumerate.
- Open the overview.
- Move mouse cursor over 'Show Applications'.
- Click and move mouse.
What happened
Cursor freezes while application list is being assembled.
What did you expect to happen
Cursor continues to move while I wait.
