[feature request] Drag and drop app folders (new)
Hi,
As a user it would be extremely useful to be able to create application folders (app folders) in the Application Overview.
What problem does this solve?
As a user, I lack tool(s) to manage large amounts of apps. I need a way to be able to organize my applications to fit my workflow.
The searching by typing the name of the app only solves this issue partially because the user needs to know the name of all the apps to be able to search for it.
This problem is very small on brand new OS installs but it grows larger as the user installs more apps the more he/she uses the computer.
Description of feature
The ideal scenario would be that a folder is automatically created when one application icon is dragged on top of another in the application view.
Ideas: As soon as the user "releases" the drag (does the drop), there should be highlighted text so the user can type a folder name immediately. Perhaps make a suggestion for the folder name based on the category of the apps in the folder.
Why this feature
In my own experience, I feel discouraged, as a user, to have a lot of apps installed. It's also hard to get a good overview of my apps and I need to be able to manage my apps. There might be many ways to solve this issue, from a design perspective, but this is just one solution.
Considerations for designers
What happens if the user has multiple monitors?
Why this issue
9 months ago, before the move away from Bugzilla, someone closed an issue about drag&drop app folders.
It was closed because a similar issue was opened on Bugzilla. Since then Bugzilla has been closed and I think this feature request has been forgotten. I'm making a new feature request for Drag&Drop app folders in the Application view.
No one has modified the Bugzilla for 2 years, now so I think it's relevant to reopen the issue. I apologize if it isn't relevant.
