Launch New Instance: Not working on Ubuntu 18.04 Gnome on Xorg

Launch new instance is not working on Ubuntu 18.04 Gnome on Xorg.

When you try to open another instance, the cursor changes into the spinning cursor for a while, but another instance does not open up. Further, if the said application was in another workspace, you get force-switched to that workspace too.
