Freeing brightness keys (XF86MonBrightnessUp and others) for custom handling via xbindkeys
Hey,
After upgrading to GNOME v3.30 I noticed my xbindkeys
brightness mappings no longer worked. A glance at systemd's journal confirmed GSD now owns them:
Failed to set new screen percentage: GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._gsd_5fpower_5fmanager_5ferror.Code0: Screen backlight not available
True that GNOME doesn't support altering the brightness of my monitor, and that's why I was using xbindkeys with DDCUtil (http://www.ddcutil.com) to handle them. How would one properly handle brightness keys in such a setup now?
It'd be nice to be able to disable GSD's handling of the brightness media so one could remap them. Secondly, I wonder if there's a way to "provide" brightness handling, similarly to how media apps can "provide" play-pause capabilities via https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/blob/master/plugins/media-keys/README.media-keys-API.
Thanks!
