Accessibility zooming not following typing in text boxes.
Affected version
All Gnome version up to 42.1.
Bug summary
After activating Zoom in Accessibility option, text is supposed to follow typing in textboxes (every text inpot space user can write in it) which is not happening in most distributions by varying degrees. best results seen in ubuntu where focus somewhat closer to typing, worst seen in Fedora where focus is nowhere near typing. but ALL of them never follow typing in browsers' textboxes, also in Mozilla Thunderbird.
Steps to reproduce
- Activate Zoom in Settings -> Accessibility.
- Start typing anywhere in the screen, starting from search box in Gnome menu, in Files search, rename a file or folder, in Text Editor, in any browser, in mail client, word processors, ant textbox/text input there is.
What happened
Zoom not following typing as it should be:
- in normal/system text inputs, Zoom focus moving poorly with typing so you can't actually see what you type. this out of focus thing varying throughout distributions. where closest focus to typing position can be found on ubuntu, and worst result seen in fedora and most other distros, I guess for using vanilla Gnome.
- In Browser-hosted text inputs (e.g. Google Docs, Facebook textboxes, etc.) and in Mozilla Thunderbird (all text inputs, not just the email text area): Zoom does not follow typing at all, and not just "out-of-focus" movement, it never moves at all, in every distro there is.
What did you expect to happen
I expect Zoom focus to follow typing in any text input, the way it currently seen in Microsoft Windows Magnifier (note: few months earlier zooming didn't follow typing in browsers in Magnifier as well!)
Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
It's really hard to take screenshots for that, but it easy enough to reproduce following the steps.
