Login process always crashes; gnome-session killed

mutter-3.29.91-1.fc29.x86_64
Steps:
- (History: This machine was affected by mutter#127 (closed) )
- Boot up-to-date F29
- End up with log-in screen, enter password
Expected outcome:
- Get into Wayland GNOME session
Actual outcome:
- End up on console; at some point the log-in screen is shown again but problem repeats
