GOA does not accept Google App Passwords

Description
I have Google's two-step authenication enabled.
When setting up my system and adding a Google account, I enter the App Password that I created for use for that machine. Instead of accepting it the dialog says:
"Please use your account password instead of an application-specific password."
This fails for me since, if I follow the normal path and enter the authorization code, Gnome Shell will immediately begin asking me for a pasword for the account and will NOT accept anything that's entered:
- my Google password
- the new authentication code generated by the Google app
- my App Password created for the shell
I don't want to turn off two-step authentication since I have it enabled for obvious security reasons.
