Description
gnome-disk-utility create image / restore image is really handy. But I was I little disappointed to see that it can't handle 'block devices'(hope that's the correct term) as target to restore some image. I just mounted some HD_Image file to '/dev/loop0' And wanted to copy "/dev/loop0p1" => "/dev/sda2"(I just created before).
I tried both ways. #1 Create image from "/dev/loop0p1" and save it to "/dev/" "sda2" and #2 Restore image to "/dev/sda2" choosing "/dev/loop0p1" as source.
gnome-disk-utility was complaining that "/dev/sda2" is no real file. (running "sudo gnome-disk-utility" didn't help)
Well in the end I end up again at the console typing: "dd if=/dev/loop0p1 of=/dev/sda2 bs=100M" and being happy about seeing it finally it working.
However I wish gnome-disk-utility would be a little more universal regarding 'files'. It's probably only some error handle or just a mode flag that is needed to also allow 'block devices' as target to for disk images.
I'm using 3.18 that is included with Linux Mint 18.3. I see there is already 3.28 out there. Sorry I didn't manage it to install & test this new version yet.
Version: 3.28.x
