Gnome auto-discovered printers never work
The Problem
I have problems to get printers to work on my Fedora 27 with Gnome. Everytime I add my notebook to a Network with a printer attached the printers show up right away. I can select all printers within the network but the printing would not work. When using the gnome-settings utility I'm able to find all network printers, but when trying to add them it fails with a notice that the printer driver could not be found, although it is present. Under Fedora it suggests to search for the driver package through the store, but all available packages are already installed.
As a work-around I enter the exact IP-Address of the printer and manually select the corresponding driver.
The auto-discovered printers show up with correct location information and driver, only the IP-Address is different e.g. localhost
or http://Brother HL-L8250CDN series._ipp._tcp.local:631
.
I tried several printers in different networks with static IPv4-Adresses.
The tried printers are:
- Brother HL-L8250CDN
- Canon MB 5250
- Oki MC573
