Shortcuts bound to shift-7 (ampersand) do not display

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open GNOME Settings
2. Create a custom shortcut for Shift+Alt+7 (which can also be thought of as Shift+Alt+& ).

Expected result: "Shift+Alt+&" is displayed in the second column where all the other shortcuts are displayed.

Actual result: Nothing is displayed, and this message appears in the system log:
