Device security: text for how to fix failures doesn't make sense
Screenshots of the failed states in the device security level tests:
The second paragraph in each description is supposed to tell the user what they can do about the failed test. Currently there are issues with them:
- It's not clear that the second paragraph is talking about the failed status of the test - they just follow the test description
- It's not clear what the point of "Contact your manufacturer for help with security updates." is. Nothing has mentioned security updates so far - it hasn't been explained why someone might need help with them. Nor have we given the advice to check for and install updates. And how would someone know if they need help with updates or not?
- The paragraph can contain two sentences, but they're not grammatically linked and don't have any logical relationship with one another.
- "or by a support technician" literally doesn't make any sense. It seems to be missing some words?
Option 1
We could add a sentence describing the state of the test and adjust the strings we have. That would result in something like:
However, I'm a little unhappy with this direction:
- The extra status string is another string for every test
- The final paragraph is long and unwieldy
- Concatenating so many separate strings into a single paragraph seems bad from an i18n point of view
Option 2
We could simply make the list of potential actions into a actual list. This would be simpler to implement, be easier to understand, and would avoid i18n issues.
The main disadvantage with this approach is that it wouldn't look so good when there's a single bullet item. Personally I could live with this, though.
