gnome-control-center Somehow Uninstalling Itself
I have just run into this issue which was mentioned previously, but I'm on Debian (buster), GNOME 3.30.2. It's happened twice since I installed it earlier today. Along with this, there's another bug that causes the entire session to crash when I drag an app down and out of my favorites bar. I'm looking to other threads to investigate that one though. I don't think the two are related, but I don't have a deep knowledge of GNOME yet so I'm not sure.
Both times that
gnome-control-center has disappeared, it's happened when I've tried to launch the control center from the apps menu within Activities while
apt-get was in the process of installing something, with my terminal (
kitty) open. The DE freezes for a moment, then when it unfreezes, the icon is gone. I cannot consistently reproduce this. Then, looking for the other most convenient button to launch settings, I notice that the small menu on the top bar is missing its settings button. It looks exactly like it does in this reddit post.
I haven't found a good fix for this other than running
sudo apt-get install gnome-control-center whenever this happens. I've tried running
sudo apt-get remove --purge gnome-control-center before reinstalling, just to make sure it's gone, and it says there's no such package as that installed, so it does nothing. If it happens again and I find out more, I'll post here. Let me know what other info you might need.
Edit 1: Not ten minutes after I posted this,
gnome-tweaks managed to uninstall itself at some point. Not sure when exactly it happened, but it also magically disappeared behind the scenes. Maybe purging
gnome-control-center removes tweaks as well somehow?
