Newly inserted DVD does not show up

Description
This issue is similar to 348533 but not quite the same. The computer is running CentOS 7.3 + X Window system + Mate Desktop. Gnome-commander was installed from the nux-dextop repo. Version is 1.6.2. Here is the situation:
The right panel is pointed to a server by an nfs mount (created with autofs). This works fine.
The right panel is pointed to /run/media/ken/ - ken bring the name of the logged in user.
I insert a DVD into the DVD drive. The DVD is labeled "MTLS". Caja (Nautilus equivalent) shows the the DVD as MTLS. I do not see anything in /run/media/ken in gnome-commander. This is where the DVD should be mounted. I can repeatedly refresh gnome-commander but the directory still appears empty. I then click on MTLS in Caja. This displays the contents of the DVD in the Caja window. NOW if I refresh gnome-commander I see /run/media/ken/MTLS and I can enter the MTLS directory and see the contents of the DVD.
Interestingly if I open a terminal and ls /run/media/ken before clicking on the DVD in Caja I do NOT see anything. Same as gnome-commander.
Upon further investigation I determined that if I change this setting in dconf Editor I can eliminate the problem:
Org; Mate; Desktop; Media handling - set a checkmark in automount [x]
I made this discovery while writing up the "bug" so perhaps the bug is not with gnome-commander after all. I am taking the liberty to submit this report as perhaps it will provide a clue to help resolve 348533.
Kindest regards,
