GcalSyncIndicator (calendars refresh syncronization progress indicator UI) only shows a tick mark, too subtle to be noticed
For a while recently I thought "It would be nice if the UI showed an obvious progress indication while refreshing calendars, whether automatically or pressing F5
or Ctrl+R
..." I think the UI did do that in the past, it just stopped working for some reason!
If you F5
, you will see this being printed during the process:
GcalSyncIndicator: DEBUG: Updating calendar icon to spinner
Someone could probably fairly easily figure out what happened (using git bisect
if needed) and fix it.
The relevant code is probably in gcal-sync-indicator.c (corresponding UI XML file here)
Edit: it turns out that what it does now is show a super subtle tick mark in the upper-left corner of the headerbar, for merely a second or so, without a tooltip and without anything to visually attract the attention:
...I would never ever have noticed it, even when actively looking for it. I probably am not alone in this situation.
Could we consider a more obvious visual feedback approach, maybe with a temporary Gtk Overlay message like Nautilus does when a long copy/move operation has completed, for example?
