It is currently ~~14.4px~~ **0.9rem** while the HIG recommends to use the "body" style for most interfaces ~~which is 14.66px~~. We should use standards if we don't have a special reason to do differently.
Increasing the font size to 14.66px makes text much more readable. Labels get ellipsized only a letter earlier on my 1980px wide display and no scaling.

Edit note by @jfft: px sizes here are meaningless, we are using `rem` as a unit 90% the size of the user's system body size. See my comment below for clarification.
