Consider relying on SDK repositories without proprietary software
Including flathub
with GNOME Builder introduces a freedom issue for distros that ship it. This is because flathub
includes non-free software, and any catalogue application (like GNOME Software) that uses flatpak will then give the user the ability to quickly install non-free software. So, this brings up two questions:
- Is it necessary to have
flathub
? - What would be needed to be able to use GNOME Builder fully without
flathub
?
Regarding the first question, I am not sure it is necessary. Most, if not all of the development SDKs I know of are now
available in the gnome
flatpakrepo. Regarding the second question, I would assume that all of the ones not available should be duplicated to a repo without non-free software like gnome
.
