Remove Photos from core?
This is a really hard choice. Image Viewer (eog) is just a really great app, very few bugs, does its job nicely, fits in well with GNOME. But it's almost redundant with Photos, and we surely do not want two redundant apps. And Photos is what we've been focusing on for a long time now.
But Photos cannot currently open images. So we've been delaying this choice for years hoping that Photos will grow support for opening images, but it just hasn't happened, and it might very soon be time to make a final choice. So options include:
- Bet on Photos gaining the ability to open images in time for 3.34 and remove Image Viewer
- Or remove Photos if that won't be possible
- Or just accept that we'll have both for a long time, and forget about Photos ever learning to open images, since then it will really be redundant.
Opinions needed, please, especially from @debarshir and @friemann and @aday
