“Oops” error screen: Cannot access the virtualization backend

  • Fedora Silverblue 31 beta
  • Boxes 3.34.0-c0bed30d via Flatpak
  • Flatpak v1.4.3

I often have the issue that at starting Boxes, instead of an overview of my boxes, I see that Oops error screen with above mentioned error message. It’s a hit-and-miss, as I need a few tries for getting Boxes starting correctly. Then, even when Boxes runs for a certain time with two VMs, I cannot go back into my machines from the overview. In this case, just a non-rotating(?) spinner is displayed with a gray background – so this problem doesn’t occurr just at program-startup, but also at entering VMs.

  • Additionally, after creating a Windows VM and closing Boxes, Qemu was not terminated and still ran in the background. Is this related?

I get those errors in the CLI (always in some permutated form):

  • (gnome-boxes:2): Gtk-WARNING **: 23:11:33.234: GtkFlowBox with a model will ignore sort and filter functions
