Poor upload performance with "gio copy" using cifs
Hello,
a maintainer from nautilus advised me to report my issue here.
My bug report for nautilus: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/1782535
Short summary
I've connected my desktop and my NAS via Gigabit-Ethernet and cifs mounting. While download speed is near maximum (~ 110 MB/s), the upload speed (of big files > 4 GB) is generally trash (~ 7 MB/s). The slow upload speed occurs only with some methods (e.g. Nautilus, gio copy), others are fairly good (50-110 MB/s): rsync, dd, cp.
A very odd behaviour with Nautilus/gio copy: The speed drop also depends on the file extension. ISO is always slow, copying (and not replacing!) an EXE is near maximum speed.
For further details please observe my posts on launchpad mentioned in the beginning.
My current configuration
Desktop:
Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (4.15.0-45-generic, x86_64)
cifs-fstab-entry on Desktop: //[ip-address]/home /mnt/cifs_nas_home cifs uid=florian,gid=florian,credentials=/home/florian/.smbcredentials,dir_mode=0700,vers=2.0 0 0
NAS: Synology DS214+ - DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 4
