#165 remove 'can not be used for a GLib.Object property' warnings.

Hello. I'm new to Vala but I really want to contribute to this project. So I figured I'd take a stab at one of the open issues for new comers. All I did here is convert the properties to getter setter functions. Let me know if what I'm doing is wrong or if it can be improved.
