Compile a multilayer image from separate opened images

Description
This is not a bug report, it is rather a feature request.
I created several screenshots during an online presentation. After pressing PrintScreen, I always pasted the clipboard content into gimp as a new image. Probably Paste as New Layer would have been better but it is too late now.
After the presentation I had >100 opened images. I wanted to save them as one image with >100 layers.
The only way to do this is to save them one by one and then File => Open as Layers.
Saving them one by one is time consuming and exhausting task. If I don't name them well then the order of the layers can be different after importing than the order I made the screenshots in.
For this purpose, I think it would be beneficial to have a "Layer" => "Convert Opened Images to Multilayer Image" menu item. It should be possible to select which images I want to include (default is all). If an image has more layers then it should be added as a layer group.
By the way, the tooltip of the File => Open as Layers menu item is not precise, I think. It says "Open an image file as layers". I think plural form would be more appropriate: "Open images as a multilayer image".
