Using scale tool in a way that results in a very large file does not trigger warning

Description
Normally, if you scale an image or create a new image to a very high resolution, gimp will give you a warning saying the new image will be X megabytes large, and ask you to confirm you want to scale/create such a large image.
However, this does not occur if you are using the scale tool. I recently was scaling a 700 pixel wide layer to be 125 pixels, but I forgot to remove 700, so it scaled it to be 700,125 pixels large, which froze gimp and made me lose hours of work.
I'm using gimp 2.8.2, but I assume this is still the case in newer versions.
