Plug-in “file-heif.exe” crashes exporting HEIF/HEIC when image has more than 1 layer in GIMP 2.10.14
GIMP version: 2.10.14
Operating System: Windows 10 x64 v.1903
Package: Windows Installer from gimp.org
Description of the bug
When one tries to export a two-layered image in HEIF/HEIC format (which means that the two layers would be merged into one in the exported file), there is an error message “Plug-in crashed: “file-heif.exe”. No file is exported. A workaround is to export the two-layered image into JPEG file, two layers would be merged into one. Then open this JPEG file and export it in HEIF/HEIC.
Reproduction
Is the bug reproducible? Always
Reproduction steps:
- Open/create some image, e.g. using menu File->New.
- Create a new layer, e.g. by typing few letters using Text Tool (which generates a new layer).
- Use menu File->Export As to try to export the image in HEIF/HEIC format.
Expected result:
A correctly exported HEIF/HEIC image file.
Actual result:
GIMP error message: “Plug-in crashed: “file-heif.exe” …. Procedure ‘file-heif-save’ returned no return values”
Additional information
This issue did not exist in GIMP 2.10.12, so this is probably a side effect of the new HEIF/HEIC functionality in 2.10.14 (https://www.gimp.org/news/2019/10/31/gimp-2-10-14-released).
Thank you.
