XCF with "better compression" enabled results in bigger file size

Description of the bug
I have 4 layers, each contains a 32bit floating-point tiff created from a RAW file in RawTherapee. In order to save disk space I decided to use the option for "better but slower" compression. I got tired of waiting more than 30 seconds so I saved the file without the better compression. To my surprise the new file was smaller! Better compression: 827MB Worse compression: 756MB The better compression produces nearly 10% larger files. The content of the two files at that point was identical.
It seems to be reproducible, even with small tiff files: no_better_compression.xcf better_compression.xcf better_compression.xcf is larger than no_better_compression.xcf
