Deficiencies identified with histograms produced by GIMP
Operating System: Windows 7 for sure but have no reason to think it is OS specific
Description of the feature
A fairly extensive discussion of GIMP support for histograms can be found in a forum topics at the URL that follows: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/histogram-confusion/7899/31
Deficiencies have been identified that are both specific to GIMP as well as when GIMP is compared with other software used for processing digital images. A summary of the state of this discussion would go as follows:
- The idea that scaling suppresses the histogram to the point it essentially becomes invisible is something that can be classified as a serious problem deserving of correction.
- The histogram needs to reveal values at the extreme light & dark end of the x-axis especially when there are more of them than any other value.
- Insofar as all of GIMP's themes use various shades of gray it would be helpful if a different color (e.g., Red, Green, Blue & something) were used for the histogram.
- The idea of displaying a continually updated histogram in a separate window or portion thereof as done by other popular image editing software would be a very desirable capability that is presently absent.
