navigation dialog should cause smooth scrolling in the image display

Description
I don't know if anyone else gets this, but I tend to work on images with a lot of detail and spend most of the time zoomed in. The quickest way to move around the image is with the Display Navigation dialogue (which I keep open all the time)
I think the problem is that dragging one pixel on the Navigation dialogue jumps the main image by several pixels, causing a steppy, jaggie-stair type of scrolling on the main image. So it'll jump ten pixels up, ten to the right etc.
After working this way for a few hours I always need to take a break! After a long time it gives me a headache!
I think this the scrolling motion would be more pleasent if it were smoothed out a little. Obviously a click would still take you straight to the area you wanted to go, but dragging would apply some interpolation between the last and current mouse position.
I think some people used to also get this in first person shooters if the mouse had a low refresh rate. As a result, most games now give the option to interpolate between two mouse frames.
(and, yes, I know this is a weird one!)
