Merge Layers by overloading the layers dialog anchor button

Description
Have been using Gimp for more than 10 years.
I am a power user.
Came up with a brilliant interface improvement today morning.
All the time we work with layers in Gimp.
All the time, we merge the layers. Literally in almost every session and image.
The issue is that it takes two clicks, and there is no button for this in the layer dialog, but there should be one, because it's used every time. There is not even a need to create the new button, just mod the existing anchor button.
There is an anchor layer button, but there is not a merge layers button.
This is an issue, because merging layers is used more frequently, than anchoring layers. And it would save a lot of trouble to the newbies too, because it improves usability.
+++ PROPOSAL:
The anchor button in the layer dialog should be intelligent !
When the layer is floating, then the button should anchor the layer, when there is no floating layer, then the anchor button should just merge all the layers that are visible.
It's probably very easy to code too:
if floating layer active : then anchor that selected layer.
if no floating layer : then call the merge visible layers function, which probably is already well coded.
I hope you like this suggestion. It's a brilliant one, because we all use the merge layers function all the time. It will save time and most of all it will create more usability for the newbies, who do not know where to find the merging layers entry in the menu.
Have an awesome week !
