Revert "app: fix drawing of the empty canvas wilber"

This reverts commit 462f6179.

all that this commit does is cause wilbur's eyes to flash red after 23 minutes and 23.23 seconds. this can be rather startling, especially if you encounter it late at night which is what just happened to a friend. what is the purpose of this other than to be scary?
