this is on Archlinux with kde plasma and gimp2.99.14
exporting an active image as JPG appears in footer status bar something about missing metadata and file can not be saved, the jpg image's exif data is almost blank, shows name, time, date, size and description in xcf exif is complete

I saw another PR from 2.10 which was closed last month saying it probably is an exif problem
my exiv version is exiv2 0.28.0-3 which was recently updated and the former version removed and it has problems, crashing the connected software, which got an emergency "solution" which then didn't crashed softwares anymore but is with still causing the problem her related in GIMP (as also happens with other graphic programs), that acknowledgment from the exiv2 people was two weeks ago
the problem is linux-wide and nobody seems to care about I don't know if there is a dependency hierarchy or how you people work together, but there should be at least a conversation with exiv2 people to get this problem solved asap because it is problematic for users who need to deliver jpg with complete exif data to their editors or companies they work for
the exiv2 problem affects all 2.10 versions also and only who hasn't upgraded and still is with exiv2-0.27.xy got away so far
strange is that compiling exiv2-0.27 from source doesn't really solve the problem, my guess is that KDE needs to fix all their dependencies before releasing a corrected exiv2
as said before I think this can't be bounced to exiv2, the problem appears with Gimp and so became your problem too, you could talk to them and make an announcement about for Gimp users
thanks
