Massive MacOS memory leak (apparently in Cairo 1.17.6 `cairo_mask`)

Environment/Versions

  • GIMP version: 2.10.34 intel
  • Package: release version
  • Operating System: macOS

Description of the bug

Over about 14 hours, GIMP 2.10.34 macos Intel swallowed 143GB of memory. I had opened a screenshot and then copied and pasted a small screenshot 4 times. There's a very bad memory leak going on there. But no idea what it could be.

Reproduction

Is the bug reproducible? Happened only once

Reproduction steps:

  1. Open a screenshot from clipboard
  2. Create a layer
  3. Select the layer
  4. Paste another screenshot on the layer (creates floating layer)
  5. Resize the new image down (using scale) tool
  6. put into place
  7. copy the little image and paste
  8. move into place
  9. make 3 more copies and move into places of the little image
  10. leave sitting for 14 hours
  11. memory usage physically peaking at 101.1GB

…

Expected result: Not using so much memory

Actual result: Huge leak of memory

Additional information
