GIMP 2.10.30: The dreaded Drop Shadow bug

Description of the bug
This bug occurs every time the user uses the Drop Shadow filter.
When the user tries to use the Drop Shadow filter, the filter's window opens. Immediately, GIMP, along with the OS, hangs and after a couple of seconds or minutes, one of three things happens:
- GIMP exits by itself.
- GIMP becomes responsive again. (rarely)
- The PC restarts without any warning. Usually before that, the PC displays three NULL characters
^@^@^@
on a black background.
Reproduction
Is the bug reproducible? Mostly reproducible.
Reproduction steps:
- Start GIMP.
- It's necessary to run GIMP from the command line:
gimp --verbose
- It's necessary to run GIMP from the command line:
- Open a project, or create a new one.
- Select any layer.
- From the
Filters
menu:Light and Shadow
->Drop Shadow
.
Expected result: Typically one of three things as mentioned above.
Actual result: Usually the first two.
