Get rid of "Convert to RGB working space?" dialog?
I'm wondering if we should not get rid of the "Convert to RGB working space?" dialog, or in any case change its behavior.
First of all, we are not a sRGB application anymore, and ever since 2.10 in particular, we don't (want to) give sRGB any kind of preference. So there is no reason to favour sRGB (which is what GIMP currently calls the "RGB working space" as it proposes to convert to sRGB). Like if an image was in adobeRGB or any other wider gamut profile, proposing to convert it to sRGB seems very counter-productive to me, in particular for a work tool.
What I am proposing is:
- "Ask what to do" stays the color profile policy.
- If there is a Preferred color profile, then when "Ask what to do" is set, the dialog opens and proposes to convert to this profile (not sRGB). In other case, it doesn't appear at all and just keep the profile! In particular it doesn't propose to convert to sRGB (unless sRGB is the preferred profile of course).
- I'm not sure we should keep the "Convert to built-in sRGB or grayscale profile" option in the settings. Basically if someone wants this, they could just set sRGB as their preferred profile.
Opinions?
