Unable to Select / Colour Select / Magic wand in toolbox

Description of the bug

Reproduction

Is the bug reproducible? Random, but superiorly Always because it worked once for me.

Reproduction steps:

1. Open an image
2. Try to select the one colour image area with transparency around it using magic wand or colour select or plain select
3. Nothing happens

Expected result: Get selected by colour or area or as per magic wand tool

Actual result:

Nothing happens

Additional information

In the same file, I had an issue with colorize too. I tried to change the Halloween pumpkin to yellow, it but it ended up with a washed yellow colour.
